Member Spotlight Joe Fayton

For most of his life, Joe struggled with his weight, eventually topping the scale at 400 pounds and receiving a diagnosis of Type II diabetes. While he had experienced some success years ago with intermittent fasting and Keto, they proved unsustainable in the long run, and he ultimately put the weight back on. During a transitional period of his life last year, he became friends with personal trainer Nadine Ramos. Determined to make a lasting healthy change, Joe took a meaningful step forward by joining Bristol Total Fitness and asking Nadine to be his trainer last September.

Working closely with Nadine over the past year has completely transformed Joe’s health and mindset. While he has lost 20 pounds since they began training, the scale only tells part of the story. Through dedicated strength training, Joe has steadily built lean muscle mass, reversed his health trajectory, and placed his Type II diabetes into full remission. Today, he feels like he is in the best shape of his life, enjoying a level of energy and stamina he hasn’t experienced since college.

That newfound vitality has created an inspiring ripple effect across his family. Six months ago, noticing how much healthier and happier his dad was becoming, Joe’s son Jack decided to join Bristol Total Fitness as well. Nadine took Jack on as a client, guiding him through individual training and duo sessions alongside his father. The pair now regularly takes Nadine’s small-group training sessions together almost every Sunday morning. Meanwhile, Joe’s younger son, Ben, is already eager to join them at the gym when he is old enough in a couple of years.

Outside the gym, Joe works as a civilian scientist for the U.S. Navy, assessing environmental impacts on marine species from naval training and testing activities. At home, he channels his passion for science and technology into coaching Ben’s Lego Robotics team. Whenever his schedule allows, Joe also loves showcasing his niche knowledge at local trivia nights. His journey highlights how sustainable habits, expert guidance, and family support can spark meaningful, lifelong transformation.
